This blog has been quiet the over the past year. With this post I’m officially putting the Sanguis project out to pasture indefinitely. I have not worked on the project this past year and I do not expect to come back to it. That said, I’ve been very busy on other projects (and university) and some projects that began as university projects. I had been hesitant to write about my other projects here, because they weren’t Cutthroat Studios projects (in other words, they weren’t Sanguis related). But with the realisation that I won’t be coming back to Sanguis, Cutthroat Studios needs a new project. And I have a few just waiting in line.
Games and graphics are what brought me to programming. They’re what brought me to computers. I still have a deep interest in graphics, and that interest shows in the projects I’ve chosen to take on recently. That said, my interests have expanded as I’ve been introduced to more facets of computer science. (more…)

As my regular readers have already noticed, there’s been a bit of a slowdown in my writing lately. There’s been a slowdown in work on Sanguis and Ashes as well. I’ve returned to school to finish my degree in computer science. Wish me luck! I have my fingers crossed hoping that when I get out, degree in hand, there will still be an economy left in which to use it!

Today was an exciting day in northern Colorado. Six tornadoes touched down all around where I live playing havoc on power lines and several communities nearby. Cutthroat Studios and yours truly were untouched by the storm, though the lights did flicker a couple times.
On an aesthetic note, the skies were beautiful: dramatic, powerful, frightening. It makes me want to get back to work on the cloud and weather simulation systems. Experiencing the drama, volatility and the huge range of appearances the sky took on in just one day was awe inspiring.

I’ve lifted the registration requirement for posting comments to the blog. I thought it was a bit onerous to ask readers to register just to post a comment, something they may only intend to do once. Judging by the (in)frequency of comments so far, readers agreed with me. Hopefully the level of comment spam won’t be unmanageable and we can keep the registration requirement off.

Cutthroat Studios now has T-shirts! I’d say, “Get them while they’re hot” but I’m afraid with shipping times, they’ll no longer be hot when they arrive at your door. Have no fear! Just throw them in the dryer and pull them out as soon as they’re done for that warm snuggly feeling.
Cutthroat Studios’ Swashbuckler Tees are available in men’s and women’s sizes in two unique flavours: black on white and white on black. The text on the shirts reads: Cutthroat Studios – Swashing yer buckles since 2007. Gyarr, mateys!
Grab your booty at the Cutthroat Studios Shore Side Shirt Shop.

You may have noticed that new button next to games that says blog. Or you may have already clicked it rather than reading about it before having a look. Either way, it is the home of the new Cutthroat Studios Developer’s Blog.
Cutthroat Studios developers will use this space to share with you things that they find exciting about their work on Ashes and the Sanguis Engine. Look to the blog for previews, discussions, information, and rants (possibly against Microsoft but I make no promises.)

Cutthroat Studios is proud to publicly announce its latest project, Ashes. The project has been in development since late 2007 and has reached a point in its maturation process that allows us to announce it and tell you a few things about the product without later having to retract those statements because the game evolved in a different direction!
Check out the games page for some information about Ashes and our game engine that drives it, the Sanguis Engine. More information and screen shots to come in the following weeks!
